Wer wir sind
Die Bücher unseres Programms setzen sich genreübergreifend mit den zentralen Fragen und Zumutungen der Gegenwart auseinander. Sie erscheinen im Gewand kritischer Essays, engagierter Sachliteratur, medien- und kulturwissenschaftlicher Auseinandersetzungen wie auch des belletrisch-experimentellen Crossovers. Seit 2014 besitzt der Büchner-Verlag eine genossenschaftliche Organisationsform, die unser verlegerisches Planen und Handeln nachhaltig beeinflusst. Sie fordert unser Denken heraus, unterstützt unser Bemühen um ein solidarisches Wirtschaften und einen Austausch auf Augenhöhe, inspiriert neue Formen der Kooperation und beeinflusst unsere thematischen Interessen. Entstanden ist dergestalt ein Fokus auf Texte, die diese Durchlässigkeit zwischen Imagination, Seinsweisen und Handeln adressieren.
… und was wir wollen
Büchner möchte Bücher machen für eine freie, komplexe Gesellschaft und ein lebenswertes Leben. Für die Lust an der Auseinandersetzung mit Unhinterfragtem und die Erweiterung des eigenen Denkraumes. Für ein reflektiertes und engagiertes Dasein im alltäglichen Rahmen und im globalen Zusammenhang. Auch für die Freude am Skurrilen, Kantigen, Unordentlich-Verrückten und dem, was sonst noch aus dem Rahmen und unserer Wahrnehmung fällt.

Auszeichnungen
Der ambitionierte Relaunch des 2008 gegründeten Büchner-Verlags im Herbst 2017 wurde im Sommer 2018 mit dem Hessischen Verlagspreis (Gründersparte) ausgezeichnet. In den Jahren 2020, 2022 und 2025 sprach eine Jury dem Verlag das Gütesiegel des Deutschen Verlagspreises zu. Seit Dezember 2018 ist der Büchner-Verlag aufgenommen in den Freundeskreis der Kurt Wolff Stiftung.

Who we are
The titles in our program deal with central questions and challenges of the present day across a range of genres. They appear in the form of critical essays, engaging non-fiction, works of media and cultural studies, and experimental literary crossovers. Since 2014, Büchner-Verlag has been operating as a cooperative, which continues to influence our publishing plans and activities. It challenges our thinking, supports our efforts at a solidarity-based economy and an exchange on eye level, inspires new forms of cooperation, and influences our thematic interests. The result is a focus on texts that address this permeability between imagination, ways of being, and action.
The name of the publisher
… is a tribute to the German writer and political activist Georg Büchner. In his short lifespan Büchner (1813–1837) wrote poetry and fiction (e.g. Lenz, Woyzeck, Leonce und Lena) – works which are held in high esteem. Moreover, he was involved in the revolutionary struggle for a just and democratic society. In the spirit of Büchner we want to make books which reflect and discuss the issues of a free and complex society, and seek to foster a life worth living. Books that question the unquestioned and expand the horizon of our thinking. Books that serve the purpose of a reflective and involved existence – in the framework of our everyday lives as well as a global context. Books that celebrate the odd, the edgy, the messy-queer, and everything else which normally falls out of the range of our perception.
Honors
The ambitious 2017-relaunch of Büchner-Verlag (founded 2008) was granted the Hessian Publisher’s Prize (category start-up) in the summer of 2018. In 2020, 2022 and 2025, a jury granted the publisher the seal of quality of the German Publishing Award. Since December 2018, Büchner-Verlag is accepted as a member of the Friends of the Kurt Wolff Stiftung.
